Friday Night Dave’s leaving party

Friday Night

Dave‘s leaving party at Retro Bar turned into more of a blogmeet than anything else. Wendy and Leslie had done wonders with the bar and lovely food, even going as far as to include kiwi fruit on the platters 😉 After a few tears, a few tantrums, and discussions about sweet tobacco and iced gems, I was convinced to go to Popstarz to continue the celebrations.
The club was packed but fun and Oliver [flirty straight boy] and Cathy [his girlfriend] kept us amused with their antics. Later after Tom had fallen asleep for what seemed like the tenth time we joined the queue to get our jackets. It seemed to snake around the entire club before eventually arriving at the coat check. Still it gave us time to cruise and be cruised. All this excitement was followed by a cab journey back to south London for pizza and pringles.

Saturday

After getting up late and missing Simon in the process I had a very lazy but enjoyable Saturday. I also managed to get rid of the futon and fridge that have been in my hall for a year. So I now have space for my bike, and Fabio’s bike, and Elric’s bike…
Although we had intentions of going out or going to see a film we ended up staying in and vegging. I’m not complaining though it was nice quality time.

Sunday

Got up relatively early as Nige was bringing Jack back to mine. Also we had plans to go and have Sunday lunch with Meg & Paul, Tom and Scally. A change of venue from the Ship in Hammersmith to the Curtains Up in West Ken was probably not good. The food and service left a lot to be desired so it was just as well we were gathered for the company and not the cuisine.
We then ventured into Leicester Square for Ice Cream and a jaunt in HMV. All of which was a pleasant and undemanding way to finish off the weekend.

I think the main thing I’ll miss about the pesky antipodean is the relaxed attitude to everything.

top night out

Last night saw me venture out in the world for the first time since being sick. Started with pre theatre drinks and lovely food at Titanic in Brewer Street – nice food but not sure about the 6 foot wide mirror balls all over the restaurant though. Did the real Titanic have those? MPW probably didn’t cook our food but hey what the hell was lovely and relatively inexpensive too.

Then we moved onto the highlight of the evening Chicago which was really good. I think I am in lust with Simon Breen [I think that was his name anyways – he played the jury and was horny as…]

The a quick drink in Retro Bar and a flashback Wendy behind the bar ans Leslie DJ’ing – now in my day we had Leslie and Wendy behind the bar and Chris Reardon DJ’ing. HOw times change eh?

So all in all a top night out and a fun time had by all – lovely company great food and an entertaining show.

I love Bank Holiday weekends

I love Bank Holiday weekends but am a little confused why we don’t have more. Even New Zealand have the Queen’s Birthday off. We should too – I’m going to start a campaign for every weekend to be 3 days long – work 4 days off 3 – sounds fair to me. 3dayweekend.org?
So didn’t really get up to much at the weekend – which is always best I find. Friday night was sports and shorts friendly at The Ram in Islington with spence and mark and a few assorted others including a few complete hunks [spence had to keep reminding me I am no longer single]. Saturday was a lazy day on the roof sunbathing and eating followed by a barbeque/party at patrick’s in clapham. Sunday was more lazing but this time with rain so no naked sunbathing on the roof. Followed by a trip to the 2 brewers with dave Monday was even more slovenly having not woken up until the afternoon followed by a lazy day with aforementioned blogger and sustinence of biscuits, snack food and tea. All followed by meeting Jacs and Dippy and Sess in Soho Sq followed by lovely food at Satsuma’s and drinks in The Friendly Society [clinical and cold] and Village [sadly quiet] and home [very very messy].

still in sunny hot singapore

still in sunny hot singapore
hey well this having fun thing is turning out to be quite tiring lol.
okay so sunday I managed to fit in Changi Point – a lovely stretch of beach which wasn’t that busy actually – after of course another coffee bean breakfast – too much of a good thing [never]. also managed to go and do some shopping with Alec and Linda and erm ended up at Ikea. Yeah I know. Ikea in Singapore well it wasn’t actually that bad but hey makes you realise just how global marketing works. The main difference here is that Ikea is not on an industrial estate miles from anywhere and it also has a burger king and other stores in the same building. A concept hard to grasp when you have seen Ikea in action in the UK.
Today [monday] Alec phoned in sick [well actually he was kind of ill] and he and linda went to the doctors whilst i caught up on my plans for the week and watched a travel programme about sydney. They came back with enough pills and potions that I thought they may be seriously ill. They like their pills out here – which is strange for a country that kills drug traffickers.
Discovered also today that had I brought in the gum I had in my bag and the book on my bedside table I would have broken two laws here. One is no gum – possessing it is fine chewing or importing are a big no no. And the book on my bedside cabinet – philosophy of the boudoir [marquis de sade] is banned here so importing it is illegal too. Good job I opted for memoirs of a geisha instead! which is excellent by the way – highly recommend it – haven’t been able to put it down much.
this morning we went to a food court and had some more lovely food. I could seriously move out here – food and heat lovely.
Also went to Bukit Timah Nature Reserve to walk in the rainforest. Singapore is one of two cities in the world enclosing a rainforest – Rio de Janiero being the other. So I thought I better take advantage of it whilst I was here.
Also went and bought some tourist tat – not too much but I promised to bring sprogg something home. Ooh and had more lovely food too and a luck cup drink thing with wierd little black balls of goo at the bottom – not v. impressed but hey possibly that is because I nearly choked when they hit the back of my throat whilst i was sucking hard on my straw.
So gonna go try calling Naz now and see if we can arrange to meet and sort out the night safari – go look at the site [linked last post] it looks fantastic.

Well I must say although

Well I must say although Christmas wasn’t planned at all this year it turned out very well. Nick and Vianney were the perfect hosts. Woke up and they even had a gift for me this morning Even though my being there was unplanned. They are so sweet.
Actually spent most of the day with them except for going home for a quick shower – there bathroom is very intimidating. All white with lots of mirrors – and I mean lots! Took my dog Jack out for a long walk with Andrew and his 4 beardies. Went back to N&V’s for dinner which was fabulous – sorry Mum but it surpassed a family meal lots. Nice conversation and lovely food.
Drove to pick up Andrew’s new boyf (The sexy Brasilian Fabio) and then came home around 11. Few more glasses of wine later and I am having a great time.
Hope you all had a good Christmas too – speak to you all in the new year [honest].
Take Care
