Social Network Sites

So Facebook is the new MySpace which was the new Friendster which was the new Tribe etc etc.
I was chatting with Davo and he quite rightly said something Anna and I have been banging on about for years. By the time you get to grips with the new site and make your profile nice and complete with pictures and information all your mates have messed off to the new next best thing. Now I’ll admit I’m fickle and am usually one of the first to get bored and move on but it brings me back to the idea of FOAF or at least something similar. I think what’s needed is a social networking site mashup where you can pull in bits from all your other profiles.
Of course the bigger problem with social networking sites is the fact that on-line unlike off-line anyone can be your friend and can see who your other friends are. Off-line we tend to keep our social groups separate we all do it to some degree but on-line you can’t. So my work colleagues can see my drinking buddies which is not necessarily a good thing!

what a week end

what a week end – the irish have a reputation for being friendly but I must say that they go far beyond this. I spent the weekend staying with a friend from work at his parents in Malahide [about 10 miles north of Dublin] and they not only put me up [even moving around so I had a room of my own] but also on a weekend they were having a family party and gran coming to stay as she was not well – hospitality was fantastic and lovely people. The flowers I got by way of a thank you seemed small and insignificant.
If anyone is over in Dublin by the way you can do far worse than taking a trip up that way – the beach is lovely and reminded me a lot of home [my parents basically live the opposite side of the Irish Sea].
On Friday night we went to HQ with work colleagues which was nice and then on Saturday went shopping with the girls and were due to visit the Guinness Brewery [davo has a cool perspex thingy with a blob of guinness in it] but we never managed it 🙁 so that is now on my hit list for next time. Allegedly there is a really cool bar too with views over the city but you need to go on the tour [or have a corporate function] to get in there.
Saturday evening we started off in Pravda and then moved to Q bar [a straight version] and then onto Fireworks which was fantastic. I never normally do straight pubs and clubs but had a really good time. Fireworks used to be the fire station and is now a huge 3 floor pub/club venue which would go down well in London – so I highly recommend it.
I also learnt that scally has broken his arm [poor lamb] on Saturday. Go send him a card or something 🙂

well an eventful few hours

well an eventful few hours since I last blogged 😉
for a change I went to the 2 sewers on Saturday night but dragged davo along too! bumped into a few drunken work colleagues and then wandered off
home, had a fab night all in all. got up exceedingly late on Sunday – well I had a late night hadn’t I
<g> so then pottered around and did some boring stuff before having a quick disco nap?
in preperation for GIANT.
went to GIANT with scally
and davo and queued for
stupid amounts of time [even though we had pre-purchased our tickets] and after
a wait of around and hour finally joined the queue for security check. after the
security check we then joined the queue to enter the venue. So by now we had
queued for around 2 hours and decided to not join the hour long queue for coat
check but fought our way through the crowds with our jackets in hand instead.
Despite all these problems [and they put us in a bad mood big stylee] we managed
to get into it when we later turned up to check our coats with a little
queue!
davo and I even ventured into the hoist <g> which wasn’t that bad actually
[apart from the porn on the video screens]. Stayed in the Heaven room for most
of the night [on a podium of course] and got completely drenched. Who needs a
sauna? or a work out for that matter. Wandered off home around 5ish I think – it
was getting very light anyways. I have vowed not to go next time because of the
queues but hey it was good despite it!
