Unlocking O2 iPhone in the UK

With the news that you can now officially unlock your O2 iPhone so that it works with any SIM card from November 10th is great but of course you’ll need your IMEI and although on most phones you type *#06# on the keypad with the iPhone it’s easier to plug it into your computer and look in iTunes. Initially you will see your phone number and you just need to click this and the display cycles through to show your iPhone IMEI and then your ICCID before returning to your phone number.
If you are a pay monthly customer your iPhone can be unlocked at anytime free of charge. If you unlock your handset and place a non-O2 sim into it, you will still have to honour the remainder of the minimum term on your contract with O2. PAYG customers have to wait a while and pay a one off ยฃ15 fee. Details of how to do this for either option are available at the official O2 iPhone unlocking website – Unlock my iPhone

How to enable emoji on your iphone

(without needing to jailbreak it)

The simplest FREE way of doing it is to install Spell Number on your phone – UK iTunes link – then you need to open the app and enter the number 91929394.59 (include the decimal point) and then you can close the app.

Then go to Settings >> General >> Keyboard >> International Keybards >> Japanese >> Emoji (switch ON)
If you don’t see Emoji as an option and only see QWERTY and Kana then reopen Spell Number and try again.

Then you should have some additional options when typing in any application.

Oh and in case you didn’t know emoji is the Japanese name for pictorial characters, smileys and emoticons. The characters are similar to the commonly used emoticons in use for chat but Emoji has over 461 standardised icons which are built into most Japanese handsets including the iPhone.

Brrr

It’s official the Arctic chill has arrived. I woke up in the middle of the night and it was chilly so chilly I had to take a grab of the weather temperature on the iPhone provided by yahoo. Now I know severe weather warnings have been issued as temperatures in the UK dipped as low as -11C (12.2F) overnight but I never really believe it in fact normally I sleep through the coldest of the weather – like modern day hibernating.

The BBC seem to not be showing the weather at all today and just says Freezing Cold- maybe it’s so cold it’s broken?

The Arctic weather is expected to keep its grip on the UK, with lows of -10C (14F) forecast for southern England and Wales into Wednesday.

Top ten searches of 2008 on google

It’s that time of year again when Google release their zeitgeist listing the most searched for terms of 2008 split out by country – it’s like having your very own research director except you don’t get to ask specific questions.
Top tens though work well I find – it’s a proven editorial technique alongside top trumps and image galleries.

I’m always amazed though how much information the search giant is prepared to share with us the general public. Obviously it’s an edited set of data – I know for instance despite appearances some terms searched for will never appear on this top ten list.

Unlike the AOL search data nothing personally identifiable is available – although this is more to do with it being aggregated and not the raw data.

Google is in a unique position to show trends but importantly as a yearly round up this also gives us a great insight into the hopes and fears of the online population.

In the UK for instance there has been a lot of press about the banking crisis and this has meant that banks and banking in general have been popular search terms – icesave for instance was in the media for weeks so it’s no surprise that it appears top of the financial institutions list. I’m surprised though that Northern Rock hasn’t made it into the top ten considering it’s plight earlier in the year.

Fastest rising finance-related searches in the UK
icesave
hot uk deals
natwest
hmrc
hbos
money saving expert
halifax
barclays
rbs
lloyds tsb

The most searched terms in the UK for 2008 though are
Facebook
BBC
YouTube
eBay
Games
News
Hotmail
Bebo
Yahoo
Jobs

Although if you are interested the fastest rising search terms in the UK which might indicate trends for 2008 are
iPlayer
Facebook
iPhone
Youtube
Yahoo Mail
Large Hadron Collider
Obama
Friv
Cam4
Jogos

If you are interested in the most searched for politicians or recipes then you can find the rest of the top ten search terms over at Google zeitgeist

The long wait to record free HD TV in the UK with Freesat+

For years we’ve been promised that Freeviw would be the future. Now of course we have freesat too but more importantly and something I’m hoping will be the future is freesat+
Essentially it’s all the best bits of freesat – the free HD programmes the regular extra free channels and no monthly subscription with the ability to record to a hard disk. All using the EPG and with smart search and pause and chase play etc.
The only people looking to make a freesat+ box are Humax and if they make it like the FoxSat boxes in Australia then they are going to be smart enough to see if y ou have set something to record and it can’t then it will search the EPG for the next showing and set it to record that one instead. Also automatic recording of split (e.g. by the news) programmes. Oh and of course everyones favourite feature from Sky+ the series link or series record option. Allegedly it will also be capable of recording ITV HD Interactive service

My only concern is that we’ve been promised this PVR for so long and now it’s allegedly being release mid November and we are almost there and no further information or specs have come out.

From: Lady Toreth Hughes
52 Oxford Street, England.

Here writes Lady Toreth Hughes, suffering from cancerous ailment. I am married
to Sir Richard Hughes an nglishman who is dead. My husband was into private
practice all his life before his death. Our life together as man and wife
lasted for three decades without child. My husband died after a protracted
illness. My husband and I made a vow to uplift the
down-trodden and the less-privileged individuals as he had passion for persons
who can not help themselves due to physical disability or financial
predicament. I can adduce this to the fact that he needed a Child from this
relationship, which never came.

When my late husband was alive he deposited the sum of 20 Million (20 Million
Great Britain Pounds Sterling which were derived from his vast estates and
investment in capital market) with his bank here in UK. Presently, this money
is still with the Bank.

Recently, my Doctor told me that I have limited days to live due to the
cancerous problems I am suffering from. Though what bothers me most is the
stroke that I have in addition to the cancer. With this hard reality that has
befallen my family, and me I have decided to donate this fund to you and want
you to use this gift which comes from my husbands
effort to fund the upkeep of widows, widowers, orphans, destitute, the down-
trodden, physically challenged children, barren-women and persons who prove to
be genuinely handicapped financially.

I took this decision because I do not have any child that will inherit this
money and my husband relatives are bourgeois and very wealthy persons and I do
not want my husband’s hard earned money to be misused or invested into ill
perceived ventures. I do not want this money to be misused hence the reason for
taking this bold decision. I am not afraid of death hence I know where I am
going. I do not need any telephone communication in this regard due to my
deteriorating health and because of
the presence of my husband’s relatives around me. I do not want them to know
about this development.

As soon as I receive your reply I shall give you the contact of the bank in UK.
I will also issue you a Letter of Authority that will empower you as the
original beneficiary of this fund. My happiness is that I lived a life worthy
of emulation. Please assure me that you will act just as I have stated herein.
Hope to hear from you soon.
