That item which I have never mentioned on my site but other people [1 2 3 4 5 6 ] have mentioned and linked to me with, appeared in my search results for the first time yesterday š
go google go.
the original googlebomb was about this time last month.
see I knew there was a reason I never put pics on the interwebnet
James has published an interesting entry about his friends girlfriend discovering photo’s used without permission in an advert [images taken from here, advert scanned here]
Now aside from the weblog issues, the main problem I see here is that search engines like google and altavista offer the facility to search for images and not pages. Don’t get me wrong I love this facility but when it brings up results [like this] with images which may be copyrighted it poses potential problems.
I was always against having my pic on the web because I work for an ISP and my colleagues could stumble across potentially bad pictures of me. Also the number of my colleagues I discovered with gaydar accounts made me think twice about having images which did not fall into the ‘g-rated’ category.
All in all I think the interwebnet is a useful tool but the potential for abuse is huge.
How many times have we seen the same thing on the web? People ‘borrowing code’ [I fully admit to this on a number of occasions], remember the spot the difference competition between blogger and blogger.com.br? something like that – same but in different colours and language. I’m sure you remember it was pretty big at the time.
So what to do? I see no easy solution to this. In fact one of the things that makes the interwebnet so useful is it’s functionality. Remove some or all of this because of abuse and it becomes a pretty boring place.
No more search for the ugly Iain‘s out there!
The North American Man Boy Love Association
I cannot believe there is an association in the US called The North American Man Boy Love Association – or that it is actually exactly what it sounds like. Oh and of course the catholic church is involved.
Urban Myth
I feel bad now. Simon was discussing the Queen Mother and her alleged Ali G impression. Although he had not seen it and was unable to provide proof other than a very vague I think it was on the BBC site. Tom and I dismissed it as mere urban legend. It appears it could actually be true.
Alcohol is NOT our friend
Saturday
Spence, and Glenn along with David [yes another one] and Benjy and I had dinner in Leicester Square. The table next to us managed to set their candle on fire – yes I know they are supposed to burn but not the entire thing all at once. The waiter casually opened the door to prevent the smoke alarms from activating ina a manner that suggested it may be a common occurence. We were joined later by Scally and the lovely Bruce for coffee before heading over to Barcode for a couple of drinks. Oh and meeting Chris again too.
Sunday
Pub lunch with alcohol and smutty comments about 20 year old waiters and 18 year old bar men, with Spence, Glenn and David [yes yet another david – common as muck that name] was followed by coffee back at mine and then yet more drinks and smutty conversation at bar ABV.
I then ventured into soho to meet up with Dave, Tom, Simon and Bart. Poor Bart I think was a little overwhelmed by the banter and it only got worse from there. We started in the Friendly Society which I must say must be one of the most stupidly expensive and dark bars in London. May as well have been in a dark room for the amount we could see. Low ambient lighting I can cope with but when someone lights a cigarette and the entire bar lights up you have to wonder if they have taken subtlety to the limits. Village was a stagger [well 2 or 3 steps] away. Dave decided to enlighten Tom about some of my history – thanks. I then decided to embark on making it worse. Somethings you should never discuss whilst drunk. Like job interviews for Bass pubs š
Swiftly moving along Compton Street to Manto’s where Tom and I read a smutty comic in fits of giggles to be scolded repeatedly by the ever mature Mrs Davo. We also leered at some cute guy for a while before practically begging him not to leave – well we sort of did it quiet enough so he couldn’t hear and he left anyways without noticing.
All in all a very pleasant weekend with good company and way too much alcohol.
I’m sure there was something I was supposed to blog about Tom but can’t remember now – will need to ask him to remind me later š
GAY
A fun evening last night with random encounters from the past. Went to meet Scally and Bruce at barcode and whilst waiting for them bumped into Chris and a number of exceedingly horny guys. I forgot barcode was full of cute guys. The boys arrived with Jenny in tow and then we continued drinking and catching up until the cute soon to be departing kiwi turned up. Brief introductions and then off to GAY.
Much flirting and merriment followed before suddenly it was 4am already and time to share a cab to south london.
