here I come :o)
Weekend of partying for me and a few mates.
Looking forward to being out of London again for a short time!
UK Childrens Words
I just used the phrase bagsy in an email – then wondered if it was actually a real word. So Matt looked it up and…
bags
verb {T} (ALSO bagsy) UK CHILD’S WORD
to have the right to have or do something because you say you want it first:
– Bags I sit in the front seat! (= I said I wanted to do it first, so I should do it, not you.)
See also bag (OBTAIN).
Influencing
I’ve been away all week on an influencing skills course. So can I influence any better? I’ll have to wait and see. I did learn an awful lot about myself and my learning styles and thinking styles though. I came down 100% on the visual thinking scale. So I think in pictures and describe things with picture type adjectives. Which makes it really hard to communicate to people who don’t.
Ah well who said communication was easy?
Sony ‘Standards’
Having bought a number of Sony electronics bits and bobs in my past I know how they like to live in their own world with their own set of standards and cables and the like.
Now they are launching connect.com to rival iTunes Store. Tracks downloaded through Sony Connect are sold in ATRAC3 format which will play only on Sony brand players, not on iPods or many other digital music players. So erm am I missing the point here – yet another ‘standard’ from Sony.
worrying behaviour
The 2001 Eurovision Song Contest was held in Copenhagen and Aqua did a megamix with Safri Duo. I am listening to it despite it being Aqua because of the Safri Duo bit. Worrying? I think so…
Comment Spamming
I was resorting to banning IP addresses to prevent the comment spamming on the site but have now installed MT-Blacklist which is a cool plug in for MovableType
my restaurant rules
While I was in Sydney (yes I know I have mentioned the trip a few times) they had a dodgy reality TV show called My Restaurant Rules. Now Sam & Catherine were perhaps the most annoying couple. They kept whining on about wanting to learn Italian etc etc and nothing really about the restaurant. The location was perfect, so it couldn’t possibly fail. Practically opposite The Colombian and next to Wagamama. Shame then that it’s the first one to close 😉
Love is in the air
It’s so wrong on so many levels yet since Harbour Party, The club remix of Love is in the air (Milk & Sugar vs John Young) has been one of my favourite tracks on my iPod. It’s going to be my song of the summer I think.
train trauma
Today I was a tad late due to train trauma. Who said London had the best transport network in the world…
I usually get the train (with lots of colleagues) from Clapham Junction to Kensington Olympia at 09:08 but as the previous train (08:38) had been cancelled it was packed to capacity with people in with the driver ten minutes before it was scheduled to leave. So a few of us from work waited for the 09:25 sadly this though was cancelled. So the next train was due to leave at 09:38 and guess what… it was cancelled too!
Then the 10:03 was delayed so I was a late. Grrrrr
I did get to have a coffee and croissant and a long chat with some people from work I don’t see enough of though. So that was nice.
lion king
The first two minutes of The Lion King took my breath away. As soon as you realise you need to look all around the theatre, above you and behind you to take in the full effect it overwhelms the senses.
I was always going to like the score. I like my beat music. Safri Duo are one of my favourite bands. So the fact that the percussion and drums were above us on both sides in what were once boxes was amazing.
The costumes and masks that are really hats are great. Scar’s was cantilevered, so that it swang forward menacingly. The other animals are brilliant too with wheels, masks, extensions to body parts and traditional costumes all pulling together to make a great effect.
I hadn’t seen the movie so didn’t know the story but quickly realised it was a kids musical. Shame then that the prices were so steep. Tickets not discounted for kids and extortionate pricing of drinks and snacks spoiled what was otherwise a magical evening.
