My back is officially sore

I was in so much pain today I went to see the doctor who has referred me to an osteopath or physiotherapist. She doesn’t care which so long as I get it sorted. She also recommended lots of pain killers :o)
So I dutifully went and purchased extra strength ibuprofen and paracetemol. I took two of each before reading the label that says only take one. Ah well my back still hurt so I guess one would have not done a thing.
If this is what getting old is like I better start living a little faster so I die a little younger.

spam spam spam

AOL Time Warner has not had a lot of good news recently. So it makes a change that today AOL is in the news for taking spammers to court. Personally I was so sick of the 14 spam mails I received on monday morning I went and got a paid account with spamcop.net I have to say it is a great filtering system and rather than just deleting the mails you get to report the abuse to relevant isp’s.
On the subject of spam here’s a list of allegedly the top ten from 2002 (compiled by surf control)

Free adult site passwords
Low price drugs (Viagra)
Refinance your mortgage
Nigerian confidential money transfer
Tiny remote control car
Best online casino
#1 Pasta pot
Get out of credit card debt
Meet singles in your area
Copy DVDs in one click

What’s your most despised spam subject line?

Mac OS X File Sharing

Open NetInfo Manager and authenticate.

Create a new subdirectory in /config/SharePoints/ (click on config, then on SharePoints, then select Directory -> New Subdirectory).

Set the name value to be what you’d like the share to be called (double-click on the Value column next to name).

Add a new property (Directory -> New Properyt) and name it directory_path.

Add a new value for directory_path. The value needs to be the path of the folder or volume (for example, /Users/username/Pictures).

name -NetInfo name
directory_path -Path to directory
afp_use_parent_owner -Boolean: Use owner of parent?
afp_use_parent_privs -Boolean: Use privileges of parent?
afp_shared -Boolean: Share this item?
afp_name -Name visble to clients

Save your changes in NetInfo.

In the Finder, set the privileges on the folder or volume you’ll be sharing. Do Show Info, then Privileges, and pick what you like — Drop Box, Read Only, etc.

Stop and restart the AFP Server from the Sharing preferences panel.

Connect from a client and they will see the new share.

I’m a little grouchy

I’ve got a sore back and I can’t walk properly and it hurts 🙁
So needless to say the person to my right in the office insisting on having a conversation on speakerphone very loudly in an ‘I’m very important listen to my conversation’ kind of way is doing my nut in.

Again and again

I wear my heart on my sleeve. I do. I can’t help it. Sometimes it gets me in trouble.
It didn’t tonight but I still wore it.
Some things in life I think you just have to do.

Can I change my life for any price?
Oh Johnny won’t you listen to me?
I just want you to be mine
I don’t want this world to shine
I don’t want this bridge to burn
Oh Johnny do you miss me?
I just want to be free

Scary Wide Web

Well actually scary wide world. The web seems positively tame by comparison to this story about “new girl“. Poor Joey. It could have all been much worse.
To think I stopped putting personal stuff on my blog because I was concerned about privacy.

six pints of lager

Allegedly that’s all it takes to get some straight men into bed.
Sometime I wonder if the same is true of gay men. Six pints and they go straight. Okay maybe not quite so cut and dried as straight or gay. You know where I am going with this I don’t need to lead you down the route. I’m feeling quite guilty about a comment I made to a friend before I came home to the UK from Sydney. It involved the usual bad taste of likening women to fish. I’m starting to see outside my conditioning of soho bars and bitchy queens. People are people and we like them for who they are.

I needed six pints of lager to recover from the topsy turvy day I had. All was going well. The sun was shining. My boss is happy with me. My colleagues all seemed happyish in the light of nasty shenanigans at work.

I arrived back in the office a few hours later to mayhem.

So more beers and a bad game of pool later and I was heading off to the brewers (yes again).

I had intended an early night tonight to make up for the excesses of the weekend. Ha. When you have friends in other time zones that never quite happens does it. Also when you have friends who may need another six pints of lager tomorrow.

Um I guess living in London price. I’d like to think location though.
