well timed delivery of My Beautiful Laundrette by mail this morning meant I didn’t have to suffer daytime TV today :o) I distinctly remmeber having to watch this with the volume turned down and subtitles on when I was living at home and it was screened I think on Channel 4 when they were running a series of late night films with little red triangles in the corner. So you had a comic mix of dodgy pseudo-porn foreign films and gay themed films all mixed into the late night schedule. I was amazed by how candid the film was though – no one actually comes out and it seems almost natural that the two boys fall in love. I so wanted to move to London thinking the entire place would be that accepting. So my little trip down memory lane was fab and just what I needed today.

The Metro today ran a small piece today saying that English people moving to the Welsh town of Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch are being challenged to pronounce it correctly. I think that those of us in South London should follow suit and ensure people moving to St. Reatham learn not to make it sound like Streatham.
first day back in the
first day back in the London office and it already feels like I have not been away at all. I have come back to lots of junk mail and news of our department move. Gah another new desk. This will be the 5th time I have moved in 18 months. In fact all in all I am kinda hacked off and want to be
a. in amsterdam or
b. back in the US
It was all going so
It was all going so well – looking forward to going into work and getting back to it and bam…. the cold I have been struggling with knocked me over big style last night. So I am in bed still and feeling very sorry for myself with no man to cheer me up today 🙁
Also last night alegedly the taxi firm opposie my house was held up at gunpoint – I was too concerned coughing and sweating to get up and see what all the fuss was about but Elric was woken up and checked it out. Scary that and makes me wonder about staying in South London for much longer.
also reading yet another new book bought whilst I was away And the Band Played on – I watched the film years ago and the book is so far much better.
and in other news I was abducted by aliens at Davo’s birthday bash recently.
went out for drinks to
went out for drinks to Kazbar last night with Tim which was really nice. bumped into José who I thought was in Spain but turns out he is back on holiday so that was nice too. He has invited me over for a holiday and I must say if it wasn’t for my hectic schedule at the moment I would book it today. Next week I’ll be over in Dublin and then next Sat/Sun flying to Washington for 3 weeks and then back into sunny London on the 4th August – hence the lack of holiday so far.
It’s Jacs birthday party tonight in town so I have been out buying decorations and baloons and things – have no idea what to get her for a present though. Maybe I’ll wait until I’m in the states and bring her something back from there.
there would appear to be
there would appear to be power cuts across London at the moment :o) Good old battery backup on the laptop
Not a very eventful weekend
Not a very eventful weekend but I did go up the millenium wheel which was really good. It’s amazing what you do when visiting a foreign city but when you live in London these things usually take a back seat. I highly recommend it – although BA referring to it as a flight was slightly annoying 😉
I followed this with a trip around west end bars. Andrew and I wandered from bar [with loud music] to bar [with loud music] not settling on a place which suited us. 8.30pm on a sunday and allt he bars were quiet or stupidly loud and quiet. The best of the bunch being Rupert Street [and those of you who know me will probably faint]. We even gave up on Barcode which was just wierd – although the cute man that kept looking at me as I left was nice 😉 So an early night was had instead of a night on the tiles.
what a week end
what a week end – the irish have a reputation for being friendly but I must say that they go far beyond this. I spent the weekend staying with a friend from work at his parents in Malahide [about 10 miles north of Dublin] and they not only put me up [even moving around so I had a room of my own] but also on a weekend they were having a family party and gran coming to stay as she was not well – hospitality was fantastic and lovely people. The flowers I got by way of a thank you seemed small and insignificant.
If anyone is over in Dublin by the way you can do far worse than taking a trip up that way – the beach is lovely and reminded me a lot of home [my parents basically live the opposite side of the Irish Sea].
On Friday night we went to HQ with work colleagues which was nice and then on Saturday went shopping with the girls and were due to visit the Guinness Brewery [davo has a cool perspex thingy with a blob of guinness in it] but we never managed it 🙁 so that is now on my hit list for next time. Allegedly there is a really cool bar too with views over the city but you need to go on the tour [or have a corporate function] to get in there.
Saturday evening we started off in Pravda and then moved to Q bar [a straight version] and then onto Fireworks which was fantastic. I never normally do straight pubs and clubs but had a really good time. Fireworks used to be the fire station and is now a huge 3 floor pub/club venue which would go down well in London – so I highly recommend it.
I also learnt that scally has broken his arm [poor lamb] on Saturday. Go send him a card or something 🙂
I was paid to take
I was paid to take my clothes off in a london nightclub
This one is actually true When I moved to London I worked in Heaven nightclub. It was actually a great laugh. We used to have theme nights and so depending on the theme we would have shows and people wandering around to freak out the acid heads. The white party for instance I was painted from head to toe in white grease paint and wore a tiny [and I do mean tiny] white g-string. On other occasions I was simulating sex on a bed at the entrance and having sex [although we were supposed to be simulating] in a foam pit by the downstairs bar just off the dance floor. Taking my clothes off on stage [and off stage] was just one of my many erm talents at the time.

oh and the weather in
oh and the weather in London today is gorgeous. Really hot and sunny – I did my lunch time run with my top off hoping to get a tan. Certainly did not want to come back into the office. When I did get back in though I was immediately greeted by moans of ‘oh it is way too hot’ and ‘god it is boiling’ All I can say is that it’s a good job we don’t normally have a hot summer or these poor people would melt. Personally I love the weather at the moment and roll on the heatwave!
